CHRIS GORE is a writer, filmmaker, speaker, television host and commentator who has built a solid reputation as an outspoken voice in the independent film world. He was recently named one of the 25 Most Influential People in Independent Film by Film Festival Today magazine.

Chris is most widely known as the hilariously honest, down-to-earth creator and editor of Film Threat. The print magazine was retired in 1997 when it was relaunched as a web site. FilmThreat.com’s audience consists of over 500,000 readers generating 15 million hits a month. In fact, the Wall Street Journal recently named Film Threat one of the top five movie web sites on the Internet. Recently Chris launched a Film Threat DVD distribution label to promote indie films that he felt deserved to be seen by wider audiences.

In Chris’ column The Gorey Details on Film Threat, he rants on a variety of topics ranging from “Are Today’s Action Stars Wusses?” to “Do Trailers Ruin Movies?” His opinionated column has helped Chris further his reputation as a self-described film activist and a champion of independent movies. Chris has been called everything from “an easier to relate to Roger Ebert, free of the celebrity status and preachiness...” to the “pit bull of movie journalism.” He was also named one of LA’s 50 Most Interesting People by Los Angeles magazine.

Chris attended his first film festival at the age of 12 and has been to over 100 since. His passion for festivals led to his first book, The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide (Lone Eagle Books). This indispensable guide has been called “the bible” for film festivals and has been adopted as required reading for major film programs across the country. The book is now the leading title in its category. He has been a judge at festivals such as Athens, Austin, Edmonds, Florida, Slamdance, and the USA Film Festival as well as a keynote speaker. In addition, Chris is in high demand as a speaker and panel moderator where he is a favorite on the festival circuit for his candid opinions about the film industry. He is also the author of a book about unproduced screenplays called The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made for St. Martin’s Press.

Chris has written for newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, Film Festival Today, Alternative Cinema, Total Movie, Blender, Details, Spin and trade publications such as Variety, Telephony, Video Business, and The Hollywood Reporter. He is a radio commentator on movies for stations across the country including Sportsfan Radio, WJR in Detroit and NPR.

Chris has been a television commentator on networks such as The Independent Film Channel, The E! Network, MSNBC, VH1, CNN, The Sci-Fi Channel, and The X Show where he was a regular film reviewer for two years. He was also the host of The New Movie Show with Chris Gore, a kind of Politically Incorrect for film, which ran for 22 episodes on FOX television’s cable network FX. He also traveled the world interviewing celebrities, crashing parties and covering the film festival scene as the host of the Starz Cinema original series Festival Pass with Chris Gore.

Chris is now the host of the Independent Film Channel original series Ultimate Film Fanatic. The first season of Ultimate Film Fanatic received the highest ratings in the network’s history and is now the number one show on IFC. This reality-based game show tests contestants on their film knowledge, attitude and obsession as they compete for prizes and the crown of the Ultimate Film Fanatic. The second season of this IFC original series airs in 2005, with a third season scheduled for 2006.

Chris began his independent filmmaking career with the cult short Red starring tough guy actor Lawrence Tierney from Reservoir Dogs. Recently, Chris has shifted his focus to producing films such as the World War II action/drama Straight Into Darkness and the upcoming comedy My Big Fat Independent Movie, where he also served as the film’s screenwriter.
